It’s Time to Explain Supply & Demand to the Justice Department

The Justice Department is blocking the American Airlines and US Airways attempt to merge. According to the JD, the lack of competition apparently will raise ticket prices unfairly and consumers will be hurt. Really? For our next trick, we’re going to attempt to pour water into a rock. Where has the Justice Department been every other time?


Unfortunately, Good Politics Usually Trumps Good Policy

Part of what I do is meet and talk to politicians and their respective staff people (at all levels). It is part and parcel with my role, and the least popular thing on my “to do” list – that and visiting my dentist who, by the way, is a great guy. It’s just that he represents dentistry, the ultimate necessary evil.


Your Dollar is Disappearing at the Grocery Store

I’ve mentioned before that the dollar isn’t going as far as it once did. We’ve discussed real wages not keeping pace with inflation. You have witnessed “headline inflation” at the gas pump, and in the aisles of your favorite grocery store. More and more people have remarked to me in recent times, how little they carry out of the grocery store for a $100. What we have here is reality of the old adage: “the harder I work, the behinder I get.”


SLCCU And Banks Can Work Together For Greater Good

Our city has a lot to offer. I’m a “homer,” true enough. And I believe St. Louis is a great city doing great things. While there are lots going on, there is a quiet battle looming outside of the “what’s happening” pages, the “who’s who” columns, the sports page or the night life of our entertainment districts. Something we don’t talk about near as much.
