“Weapons of mass destruction (WMDs)” was one of the more popular utterances in our recent past. It seemed as though, on an almost daily basis, we would have to navigate through a news story, political commentary, or late-night humorous fodder that included some reference to this category of possible military threat. We were boarding American Airlines out of Dallas. I noticed that the guy in front of me was intensely studying one of the doorjamb stickers, in the way that you check your car’s doorjamb stickers if you want to know how much air to put in your tires. He wanted to find out something. Given that I have never looked at the doorjamb of a plane, I had no idea. (more…)
