It’s About the Basics

“Gentlemen, this is a football.” After a deplorable season found its way into what was otherwise a glorious history, the Green Bay Packers hired Coach Vince Lombardi. He was not the legend he would become on the day of that first practice. In fact, just the year before, he was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He was just a guy ― a good coach, but not yet proven to be the pinnacle of football coaches. And his first words on that first day of practice were “Gentlemen, this is a football.” What a Mr. Smarty Pants.

His point to the assembled team now under his control was simple: It’s about the basics. (more…)

The boys of summer have packed their bags and headed north. Baseball is upon us…PLAY BALL! In St. Louis, we have two seasons — baseball and waiting for baseball. With the opening of baseball season, people are generally happier, and red is the prominent color displayed everywhere. Yeah, baby! Always Faithful
